Census Offers Tips for USPPI, Export Information Code Errors in AES
The Census Bureau emailed tips on how to address the most frequent messages generated this month in the Automated Export System.

Response code 256 is a fatal error for when the postal code and state code reported in the U.S. Principal Party in Interest Address do not match. Census said the reported USPPI state code "must be valid for the state associated" with the postal code. The filer should verify the code combination, correct the shipment and resubmit.
Response code 501 is another fatal error for when the export information code is missing. Census said an export information code must be reported on every shipment, and the filer should correct the shipment and resubmit.
