Anti-Corruption Sanctions Bill Reintroduced

A bipartisan group of four lawmakers reintroduced a bill Jan. 14 that would rank countries on their efforts to fight corruption, and would direct the State Department to evaluate whether the worst offenders should be subject to sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act.

The sponsors of the Combating Global Corruption Act are Reps. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., Bill Keating, D-Mass., Joe Wilson, R-S.C., and Maria Salazar, R-Fla. The bill was referred to the House Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees. The legislation was previously introduced in January 2023 (see 2301260009).
