FMC Tells Carrier to Pay for Lost Generator

A Federal Maritime Commission administrative law judge on March 13 ordered Florida-based ocean carrier Crowley Logistics to pay Ian Mills $8,500 plus interest as reparation for a clip-on generator that went missing in late 2021 and was never found.

Mills, who runs an agribusiness in Barbados, hired Crowley to ship a 40-foot container from Miami to Barbados. He argued in his complaint that Crowley picked up the container with the generator attached but lost the generator and didn’t take reasonable steps to locate it.

Crowley insisted it didn’t pick up the generator but tried to address Mills’ claim. However, the judge concluded that Crowley picked up the generator, failed to deliver it and made little effort to look for it.
