Ethiopia Aims to Conclude WTO Accession Talks by March 2026

Ethiopia hopes to join the World Trade Organization by the 14th Ministerial Conference, which will take place in March 2026, the WTO said. During a March 19 meeting of the WTO Working Party on Ethiopia's accession, the country said "its goods offer commits the country to bound rates -- maximum tariffs -- lower than those" found in the benchmark for least developed countries for the agricultural sector.

Ethiopia's accession talks resumed after a five-year pause following the fourth meeting of the working party. In light of the MC14 deadline, WTO leadership "invited the country and members to intensify market access negotiations, based on its revised market access offers," with the aim of concluding talks "as soon as possible," the WTO said. Nations were invited to submit comments by April 16.
